January 16th, 2025 -The launch of the first five pilot lines under the Chips for Europe initiatives

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the FAMES Pilot Line, a flagship project under the EU Chips Act, coordinated by CEA-Leti, focusing on developing a set of technology FD-SOI 10 and 7nm, non-volatile memories, 3D technologies, radiofrequency component and Power Management Integrated Circuits) to allow disruptive energy-efficient chips architectures and foster the competitiveness of the European semiconductor industry.
On Thursday, 16 January in Brussels, European Commission Executive VP Henna Virkkunen, François Jacq, CEA CEO and President of the EARTO – European Association of Research and Technology Organisation, and the leaders of European RTO Luc Van den hove (imec), Albert Heuberger (Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft), Stefano Fabris (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche), Valerio Pruneri (ICFO), came together to celebrate this significant milestone.
With a total budget of €830 million allocated until December 2028, co-funded by the EU and participating Member States, the FAMES Pilot Line will support the R&D needed to increase Europe’s semiconductor development and manufacturing capabilities, securing a portfolio of sovereign technologies.
“The launch of the FAMES Pilot Line is a pivotal moment for Europe’s semiconductor landscape. This initiative not only strengthens our R&D capabilities but also ensures that Europe remains at the forefront of technological innovation in energy-efficient chip solutions,” said François Jacq (CEA).
